In the 6th inning of yesterday’s Royals baseball win over Edina, Robbie Palkert, senior, knew something special was happening.

“The game was close the whole way so I couldn’t lose focus, but it’s always in the back of your mind” said Palkert.

That thing in the back of his mind was a no-hitter. To put it into context, Major League Baseball has been around for 135 years, over 200,000 games played. Only 287 games have had a no hitter in them.

After a Coby Hair, senior, two run blast in the first inning, the rare event didn’t come too easy as a mixture of defensive errors and walks kept the Hornets in the game. A groundout following a couple of errors in the 4th inning scored the Hornets only run.

Zero hits and 7 strikeouts later, the book was closed on Palkert’s first career no-hitter.

“I was psyched, beating Edina is a big win because they are not only a conference team but in our section too.” Palkert said.

The Royals will complete their regular season slate with a matchup with Grand Rapids this afternoon at HHS.
