In game two, the Royals blew a 3-1 lead and lost in extra innings by a score of 6-4, sending the Buffalo Bison to their first-ever state tournament appearance.

Monday, May 18, marked the beginning of the section 6AAA girls softball tournament. With a 9-9 regular season record and a 6-2 Lake Conference record, the Royals recieved the top seed for the section tournament.
The Royals, along with the other top four seeds in the section (Buffalo, Orono, and Robbinsdale Cooper), were given byes in the first round. The other eight teams that didn’t have a bye would have to win twice on Monday in order to reach the semifinals.
Before the Royals began their quest for the state tournament, Minneapolis Southwest and St. Louis Park battled it out for a spot in the quarterfinals. After a 10-inning duel between the two teams, St. Louis Park managed to pull out a 5-3 win.
Right after that game ended, the Royals played St. Louis Park. After the hard-fought match with Minneapolis Southwest, St. Louis Park came into the game exhausted and spent.
Right from the getgo, the Royals proved to be the dominant team. The Royals scored all 16 of their runs in the first three innings of the game, including six runs in the first and seven in the third.
Lauren Feagler, senior captain, pitched all five innings for the Royals and allowed only one hit.
The game ended after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule, with the Royals winning 16-0.
The Royals will play Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the Section 6AAA semifinals at 4 p.m. tonight at Miller Park in Eden Prairie.
