Last week (April 11- April 15) the girls looked to make a big statement as their first game was against Makenzie Merritt, junior’s old team [Waconia].

On Tues. April 12, The Royals played against Waconia and were unable to find any sort of rhythm in that game. As a result, Waconia took advantage and beat the Royals 7-0. Wed. April 13, the girls looked to bounce back against Orono.

After a well fought game by Orono, the Royals took the win 8-6 handing the girls their first win of the season.

“We felt great. Orono has always been a pretty big rival of ours, so the outcome of the game was a good confidence builder to us,” said Allie Ries, senior.

The girl’s looked to carry their confidence into their first conference game against Wayzata on Fri. April 15. The Royals dominated Wayzata 8-2 in a game that looked to be close leading into the game, however, was completely controlled by the bats of the Royals.

Sat. April 16. The Royals faced Robbinsdale Armstrong. The Royals ran the show as they scored 14 runs and only let the Falcons score 4 runs.

The girls finished the week 3-1 and look to continue their successful production this week. The Royals have two games this week. Including: Wed. April 20, against Champlin Park and Thurs. April 21, against Edina.

“Now that the first week is in the books it feels good to take all the hard work we put in that first month of practice and translate it to games,”Allie Ries said. “So far the team has done a great job following the traditions of Royal softball and we’ve had great energy throughout the season.”
