Boys soccer falls to Orioles in overtime
Last night, the boys varsity soccer team faced the St. Louis Park Orioles at the HHS stadium.
The Royals headed into the game with a 1-1 record, as they were defeated in their previous matchup against Champlin Park 1-0 in overtime.
The first half showed little offense from either team, and SLP went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
“[After halftime,] we were looking to take the attack to them because they sagged off and played more of a counter style attack,” said Nico Soffer, senior captain.
The attack offense worked, as Brandon Speich, senior captain, scored in the second half to tie the game 1-1.
“We struggled to play as a team as the game started, but it came together in the second half,” Speich said. “We were dominating offensively but struggled to put the ball in the net.”
The second half goal kept the teams tied through the second half, taking the game into overtime tied 1-1.
In the second half of overtime, the Orioles scored twice, ending the game on a buzzer-beater 3-1 victory.
The Royals will travel down to Buffalo on Sept. 10 at 5 pm, hoping to even out their record against the Buffalo Bison.
