St. Clair announced Aspire Athlete Semifinalist
In addition to the HHS girl’s soccer team being on a winning streak of 8 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties, one of their own, Rachael St. Clair, senior captain, is a semifinalist for the Aspire Athlete Award.
The award is given to athletes excelling in athletics, academics, community involvement, and upstanding character and leadership qualities. The coach of the team can nominate one player every week.
Coach Keith Pavelka did not respond to the Royal Page’s request for an interview.
“It’s definitely an honor anytime you’re nominated for something like that. I think it’s cool that they recognize players who have been working hard,” St. Clair said.
Olivia Geiwitz, senior captain, knows St. Clair better than most and is supportive and happy for her becoming a semi-finalist.
“Rachel and I have been friends for a while, and we have played soccer for five or six years together,” Geiwitz said. “I think it’s great that she got nominated out of all the people. She deserves the award because she always puts her best effort out and never gives up. She’s just a good role model to look up to.”
St. Clair feels that it is the work of the whole entire team that is making them so successful this season.
This year, the Lake Conference has been a difficult one to be in with all the teams being extremely skilled. All the teams in the Lake Conference have won and lost back and forth to each other making it difficult. They have been scoring many goals- 4 of those coming from St. Clair herself.
“Our team is really good this year, and our entire team has been playing really well together. I think it just helps to have people up front who can score. Ashley Akin and I have been helping with that, and our midfielders have been contributing a lot. I think it’s been the hard work of the team that helped me get that [award],” said St. Clair.
