HHS hosted their first talent show in the little theater April 12, 2014. National Honors Society (NHS) and the Asian Culture Club made HHS Got Talent possible with the help and participation of performers and the support from the audience.

The whole night was dedicated to fundraising for the Make a Wish Foundation. All of the proceeds collected from the three dollar entry fee and additional donations were given to the foundation.

“For NHS we were given a list of organizations and Make a Wish was one Jordan and I really wanted to be apart of,” said Claire Smart, senior. “It’s an amazing organization that gives kids with life threatening diseases the chance to do something they want before god takes them.”

Smart and Jordan Shear, seniors, are members of NHS and made the whole night possible.

“We had a leadership meeting back in November and we thought it would be a fun idea to have a talent show because it’s never happened before. We wanted to get the whole student body out here and raise money for Make a Wish,” said Shear.

In addition to NHS, the Asian Culture Club also helped make the show a success. The Lion King Crew is a break-dancing group within the Asian Culture Club who performed last night.

“We were going to put on a show of our own and someone said NHS was doing a talent show, so we wanted to partner up with them and perform,” said Gary Vaj, senior.

Vaj is a member of The Lion King Crew and also the Asian Culture Club. The breakdancing group performed earlier this year during the winter pep fest for high school students in the Lindbergh Center.

“We want to say ‘we are Hopkins’ so that’s where lion king came from, since our school mascot is a lion,” Vaj said.

To add more talent and also get the crowd laughing, HHS’s very own Comedy Club performed and helped introduce the acts.

“Earlier in the year we had a lot of hype during our first show so we were asked to MC. It was pretty exciting and a lot of fun,” said Peter Hauser, senior.

Hauser is a member of the Comedy Club and helped with the entertainment between each act.

“We incorporated a lot of the comedy games we played during our Comedy Sports Season. We wanted to get a lot of laughs and keep the show lively,” Hauser said.

HHS Got Talent brought together many different students for a night full of talent and fun. A new tradition at HHS may have begun to help raise awareness to a cause and bring the student body together.

“I hope the tradition will carry on in the following years,” Smart said.
