Boys basketball looks to continue winning streak
The HHS boys basketball team is looking to extend its winning streak to 13 games tomorrow against Maple Grove.
While Maple Grove is traditionally not a basketball power, the Royals are being careful to ensure that their winning streak will not end.
“They have a freshman point guard that likes to get to the basket as well as some big guys that are thicker and like to rebound,” said Kamali Chambers, senior.
Another freshman point guard, Jack Sorenson of Lakeville South, went for 44 points against the Royals earlier this season.
The Royals are currently ranked second in the state according to the Star Tribune. Their only loss of the season came against top ranked Apple Valley.
“Not only have we been winning, we have also been playing well. It’s helped us gain momentum, and obviously it’s going to give us confidence,” said Jake Wright, senior.
The Royals are hitting their stride on the court, winning the majority of their games by double digits.
“Everyday in practice, we just have a really competitive mentality. We believe we are the best team in the State, and that confidence is helping us play good basketball,” Chambers said.
While they have kept their goal of winning a State championship in sight all season, the Royals continue to be focused on the current task at hand.
“We are just focusing on each game individually and how we can keep our winning streak going,” said John Warren, junior.
Despite the winning streak, Chambers still believes their best performances of the season are yet to come.
“A couple conference games that we won, we didn’t feel that we played our best. We feel like we need to prove to people that we can play better than what we have showed,” Chambers said.
