Boys basketball takes down Eden Prairie

The number two ranked boys basketball team won their second conference game in as many tries, taking down the fifth ranked Eden Prairie boys basketball team on Tuesday night.

The Royals (15-1, 2-0) jumped out to an early lead by taking advantage of sloppy play by the Eagles. That luck soon ran out, and the Eagles began to pound the ball inside.

The Eagles eventually led by 10 in the first half. However, the Royals made a run to close out the half, including a last second three by Jake Wright, who had a game high of 26 points (5-14 3pt).

The Royals did not panic. “I knew that we just started off shaky, and that the second half we’d come out more energized and play and shoot better,” said John Warren, junior.

Wright started out the game going 1-5 from beyond the arc, but heated up in the second half.

“We encourage his shooting because that’s what he does. We just have to take it to our advantage and go to the offensive boards,” Warren said. “Since he was struggling, we just had to go to the boards and get his misses.”

The Royals outscored Eden Prairie 52-36 in the second half, thanks in part to Wright’s threes and the scoring outburst of Amir Coffey, sophomore, who totalled 21 points.
