Royals vs Apple Valley basketball preview

It may be early in the 2013-2014 high school basketball season but the Hopkins Royals basketball team is getting ready for what could be the toughest game of the season.

Tomorrow ,Tuesday December 10th, at 7:00 Hopkins (5-0) will face Apple Valley (4-0) at the Lindbergh Center.

Apple Valley is ranked number one in the state according to The Star Tribune. Deservingly so, with the play of senior guard Tyus Jones who is averaging 27 points per game. Jones is ranked fourth on ESPN.com’s top 100 recruits in the 2014 class, and is the number one ranked point guard.

Jones is arguably the most hyped Minnesota high school basketball recruit since Khalid El-Amin played at Minneapolis North, leading them to three straight state titles and being named a McDonald’s All American in 1997.

HHS comes into the matchup ranked second in the state behind Apple Valley, lead by the play of senior guard Jake Wright. Wright is averaging 23.2 points per game this season.

Tuesday’s game could possibly be the preview of the 4A state title game, as both teams are expected to make it that far.
