Jake Wright committs to The Citadel
by Dan Sheldon, senior
It is that time of the year where athletes will be committing to schools for their respective sport. Jake Wright, senior, has started the trend for HHS, committing to The Citadel Military School in Charleston, South Carolina, a Division One program, for basketball.
Wright has received recruitment attention from multiple colleges, but after an official visit to The Citadel last weekend, it felt like the right fit.
“I really felt like I connected with the coaching staff right away, and I loved every single one of the players and playing with them,” said Wright.
With mostly freshman last year, the Citadel basketball program is up and coming. Jake has the opportunity to make a big impact for the team next year.
“They should be pretty good this year. They don’t have a true shooting guard this year so they want me to fill that spot right away next year which is exciting,” said Wright.
Transitioning from Minnesota to South Carolina will bring along a whole new world for Wright. Not only will he be playing basketball for a whole new program, he will be 1,300 miles away from home, attending a military college.
“It will be a foreign environment, with no snow and and having to wear a uniform everyday, but I’m up for the challenge and I like challenges. I feel like it will pay off in the end,” said Wright.
This opportunity is something Wright has worked for his entire life.
“This has been my goal since day one, just to play division one basketball. This is a great opportunity for me and I am really excited to play for The Citadel,” said Wright.
