Royals football defeats Wayzata for first time in 15 years

For the first time since 1999, the Royals football team beat Wayzata. The Royals edged the Trojans by a score of 28-21.

Coming into the game, the Royals knew they finally had a chance to defeat the Trojans. The Royals were at 3-2 and coming off a strong win against Lake Conference rival, Minnetonka. Coming off a blowout loss to Totino-Grace, Wayzata came into the match up with a 1-4 record.

The Royals were eager to avenge last season’s homecoming and section losses. The Trojans spoiled last year’s homecoming by defeating Hopkins 40-14 and then ended the Royal’s season with 35-7 win in the section tournament.

The game was very evenly played and both teams kept it close the entire way. When regulation time ended, the teams were tied at 21.

D’Tavius Williams, senior, scored on the Royals scored on the Royals’ first overtime possession to give the team a 28-21 lead. Strong defense and a 4th down stop sealed the win for the Royals.
