Volleyball sunk by Skippers

Last night, the Royals volleyball team fell short against the Minnetonka Skippers.

Amanda Gans, senior, served the first point of the first set, and the Royals took the lead 12-10. The Skippers quickly pulled ahead 20-15 and won the match 25-19.

In the second set the Skippers took the lead with a score of 7-3. The Royals fought hard and caught up with a 20-18 lead. However, the Skippers regained momentum ended the set 25-23.

The Skippers relied on all-around player Isabelle Aragon-Menzel for the first two sets while five of their starting players were injured on the bench.

In the third set, the Royals took the lead 5-3. While the Skippers attempted to stay closely behind, the Royals stayed resilient and won the set 25-22.

Going into the fourth set, the Royals pulled ahead with a 7-5 lead. The volleys continued until the Royals ended the set with a 25-20 lead.

With the fifth set, crucial for both teams, the Skippers fought hard and pulled ahead with a 9-7 lead. The Royals kept closely behind but could not overcome the Skippers. Minnetonka took the set with a final score of 15-9.

The Royals have an invitational this weekend at Apple Valley.

Their next match is Tuesday, Oct. 6 against the Edina Hornets at Edina.
