Jasmine Dickerson, senior, has been singing since she could talk.

Better known by her stage name ‘Jazzy D,’ Dickerson performs often and enjoys every minute of her shows.

“I never really learned to sing, I just grew up in that environment,” Dickerson said.

Singing has given her many opportunities. She was able to audition for America’s Got Talent.

In third grade, Dickerson went on a European tour with her mom, who is also a singer, and she was able to be in the show as well. More recently she almost had the chance to sing with Usher, and she got to meet Prince. She also was going to sing with Chris Brown, but the show got canceled.

“[Meeting Prince] was a very exciting moment,” Dickerson said.

Dickerson also performed at an event for Target where she sang Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” in front of 20,000 people.

Dickerson says she loves singing for people because she feels that they are able to relate to the lyrics. She has been singing at the HHS Pepfest since her junior year.

“I love [performing]. It’s a great feeling.” Dickerson said. “I can feel [the audience’s] support.”

Although she wishes it could come out sooner, Dickerson hopes to release her album, called ‘Queen’, in 2016.

“It’s surreal,” Dickerson said. “Just my name being out there in the music world, I feel like I’m halfway there.”
