Dropping their first album in three years, still topping the charts on the Billboard Artist Top 100 list, averaging 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and consistently being a big name in the music industry since the beginning of their first music breakthrough. It is none other than Tyler, The Creator; from Goblin, to Flower Boy, and the newest addition to their discography, Chromakopia. What has Tyler got in store for his listeners with this new album?
Chromakopia is Tyler’s first album released since 2021 dropping October, 28 of 2024, a feature-packed album including, Daniel Caesar, Teezo Touchdown, Glorilla, Sexyy Red, Lil Wayne, LaToiya Williams, ScHoolboy Q, Santiagold, Lola Young, and Doechii. Songs like “Like Him” and “St. Chroma” are already trending on TikTok being used for dances and edit sounds. Songs off this album like “Sticky” have already begun to be picked up by high school pep bands because of their prominent brass solos.
Tyler, The Creator’s music style is described as a mix of hip-hop, rap, and R&B, by Medium journalists. However with interviewing various students at HHS, teens are describing Tyler’s music as “A style of their own.” said Diego Stockhaus, 12
Other students related Tyler’s style as a mix of genres,“ kind of alternative hip hop, rap, and west coast experimental.” said Max Mendoza, 12. According to Stockhaus, the uniqueness of Tyler’s musical style is why he continues to listen to their music.
Since not having released new music since their last album ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ I decided to deep dive into what has kept students fans of Tyler, The Creator. “Tyler, the creator has been my top Spotify artist for 4 years in a row, they are my comfort artists that I never get tired of listening to!” said Osa Hanneman, 11.
Tyler is also widely known for their storytelling ability. “ I listen to him because I like his lyrics and storytelling are intriguing,” said Mendoza.
With the recent drop of Tyler’s latest album ‘Chromakopia’, the Spotify ‘Popular’ song chart of Tyler, The Creator has seen some new additions. With ‘Sticky’, ‘Like Him’, ‘St.Chroma’, and ‘Darling, I’ taking spots two through five. However, these high schoolers had some different favorites.
“My favorite song from Chromakopia is ‘Take Your Mask Off’. It is my favorite because it’s super easy to listen to but it also tells a story.” said Hanneman.
Stockhaus, like Hanneman, had a favorite not found on that top-five list. “My favorite song off of Chromakopia is ‘Judge Judy’ because I like the instrumentals and the way the song flows.” said Stockhaus.
Chromakopia is a testament to help us understand why Tyler, The Creator is an artist who continues to stay relevant in the music industry. With their unique musical style and imaginative storytelling, Tyler is sure to stay a big name in music.
