This year, Hopkins High School transitioned from Naviance to a new platform called Maia Learning to ensure better college application and life preparation beginning freshman year.
“For the past couple years, we had been using Naviance, but it was complicated to navigate and wasn’t very functional for the college application process,” said Dr. Michelle Kuhl, College and Career Counselor.
Maia learning is an online platform that can be accessed on Classlink. It has all the information about colleges, college visits, and even career exploration. It also connects with the Common App, making the college application process easier.
“I really like Maia learning because how simple it is. Everything is easy to find, and it makes both searching for colleges and learning about the admissions process really easy.” Said Megan Peter, 12.
Although some seniors heavily rely on Maia Learning for their applications, some students haven’t even begun to use it.
“Although I haven’t applied to any colleges yet, the little time I have spent on the website has been enjoyable and has allowed me to find some colleges I am interested in.” Says Devon Kantola-Bosch, 12.
The overall feedback on Maia Learning has been positive. The change hasn’t made any differences to the teachers for their letters of recommendation and has made transcript requests easier than ever. Plus, the simple and accessible format is loved by students.
“No matter what grade you are in, I highly recommend exploring Maia Learning. It has helped me explore future careers, and it has allowed me to view many colleges, allowing me to plan for the future,” said Milena Carrizales, 12.
Dr. Kuhl has been working hard to ensure that all students understand how to use the platform. She has created a bunch of tutorials that can be accessed via the Hopkins High School website. Go to Hopkins Counseling, then resources, and all of the tutorials should be available there.
