Singing in the Halls
I’ve never seen a high school look so fresh.
On Friday, Geoff and Midori sang those exact words as they traveled the halls during passing time singing the special arrangement of “Royals” by Lorde. Geoff is the highest men’s choir at HHS and Midori is the highest women’s choir, both consisting of nine members.
“It’s a Royal pride song meant to get everyone excited to be back in school, especially if you’re a sophomore and it’s your first year here,” said Casidy Coats, senior and Midori member.
At 5:30 that morning, Philip Brown, Choir Director, texted every member of Geoff and Midori, telling them to stop by the choir room before school started for further instructions.
“It was an idea that came from Student Government, and they asked if I would be willing to teach Geoff and Midori their arrangement of Royals. The first verse is alternative lyrics written by Student Government to promote our school in a positive way,” Brown said.
Many students stopped to listen to the performance, even as the bell rang for class.
“We had a lot of people who don’t usually come to our concerts, who were surprised like ‘Wow, we have this at our school?’” Coats said.
As for more impromptu concerts in the halls of HHS, Brown hasn’t decided.
“We really don’t want to do it enough where it feels chaotic or gets annoying. You have to pick and choose your moments,” Brown said.
