Since its launch in Sept. 2011, the mobile application ‘Snapchat’ has exploded in popularity. According to VentureBeat, a technology website, the messaging service has an estimated 100 million active users sending nearly 9,000 picture messages every second.

Over the past several years, the California based company has frequently updated their application with stability improvements, redesigns, and other innovative features to keep the application fresh.

One of the newer updates is the geofilter. The geofilter allows local artists and graphic designers to submit their own designs for picture overlays to feature landmarks and notable attractions.

Last week, HHS created three new geofilters. For students that are on school premises with their location services turned on, and also have the newest version of Snapchat, can swipe from left to right after taking a snap to bring up the new designs.

The first geofilter says “Hopkins Royals” in large blue arched comical letters flanked by the Hopkins lion logo sporting a crown.

The second geofilter includes simple blue, white, and grey stripes with “HOPKINS ROYALS” scrolled across the middle in large black letters.

The third geofilter includes a large blue “H” logo and the words “Hopkins High School” scrolled across it all layered over a black and white smoke.

Student have actively used the new geofilters, providing more HHS school spirit.
