Football preview: facing the Hornets

After beating the Edina Hornets twice in 2014, the 2015 Royals football team hopes to continue their recent success against the Hornets.

The Royals defeated Edina by a score of 27-24 during the regular season and went on to beat them in a close game, 37-36, to end the Hornets’ 2014 season.

“We already know that we can beat Edina. We did it last year, and if we go out and play our game, that’s what we’ll do,” said Oscar Johnson, senior captain.

Friday, Edina will be out for revenge, led by junior dual-threat quarterback, Brock Boltmann. Boltmann leads the Hornets in passing yards and is second on the team in rushing yards.

Both Hopkins and Edina opened their 2015 seasons with convincing wins, followed by losses to Maple Grove and Eden Prairie. In what has the makings of an evenly-matched game, Edina will rely heavily on a run-based attack, while Hopkins will employ a more balanced offense.

On Friday night at 7:00 PM, the Royals travel to Kuhlman Stadium in Edina, as they attempt to take down the Hornets.
