For the first time in 11 years, the Royals boys cross country team is heading to state.

At Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista, the Royals needed to finish in the top two out of 13 teams to advance to state.

Led by Joe Klecker, senior, Royals runners finished first (Klecker), sixth (Owen Hoeft, junior), 14th (Hunter Staack, junior), 16th (Seth Eliason, sophomore), 22nd (Sam Branson, junior), 23rd (Jack Henschel, junior), and 37th (Brett Nelson, senior).

Those places were enough to finish second behind Wayzata and secure a spot at the state race at Buck Hill on Nov. 1.
