On October 9th, students at HHS had the opportunity to donate a pint of their blood to the Memorial Blood Center. The donated blood is then used for research, cancer patients, and surgery.

Over 100 students and staff signed up to donate on Thursday.

“I’m giving blood because it is a really good opportunity to help people, and if I have extra, there’s no reason for me to keep it all for myself.” said Jordan Dunnewind, junior.

According to the Memorial Blood Center’s Make a Difference pamphlet, if someone began donating blood at 16 years old and donated every 56 days until they were 76, they could save over 1000 lives.

The process of donating blood takes about an hour. One pint of blood saves the lives of three people. After the blood is taken, it is labeled and tested; a few days later it is sent to where the blood is needed.
