Baseball: Recap of Millers
May 9, 2017
The Royals came into last night’s home matchup against the Minneapolis Washburn Millers with a three game winning streak, looking to extend it to four.
Jack Kohen, senior, was the starting pitcher and pitched three innings, striking out eight batters. Kohen was also given the win for his performance.
The Royals started off going down 3-0 in the top of the first inning. They didn’t let that get their confidence though and tied up at 3-3, before Matt Shaw, senior, hit a grand slam over the left field fence to make it a 7-3 game. The Royals scored two more runs to make it a nine run first inning, and went on to win the game 14-3 in five innings due to the 10 run rule.
Hopkins achieved 15 hits in the game and got a relief pitching performance from Joey Swanson, senior.
“We scored more runs than we have in previous games, which was good to see from the boys,” said Morgan Holmes, senior.
The Royals next test will be tomorrow at 4:30 PM, when they face the conference best Wayzata Trojans.
