Player Profile: Max Burke
Apr 28, 2017
Max Burke, junior, is a lacrosse player with a bright future.
Burke is quite new to lacrosse but in his first couple experiences, he’s really enjoyed it.
“This is my first year playing lacrosse. A lot of my friends were on the team, they convinced me to play and I’m happy they did,” Burke said. “In the first weeks of playing, I fell in love with the sport.”
Burke was taken under the coaches and captains wings as he slowly started to get accustomed to the program.
“The coaches have always been really nice to me. I wasn’t sure about lacrosse at first, but the coaches made me feel comfortable,” Burke said. “Also, the captains have taught me correct positioning and technique on the field.”
Burke plays defense and his size and strength benefit him there.
“I am a defenseman. That’s what I was expecting to play,” Burke said. “Defense gets really physical and that’s one of my favorite parts of the game. I like smacking people with sticks.”
Burke plays football in the off season and those skills can be transferred to the turf.
“Football taught me how to play physical and stand my own ground,” Burke said. “I don’t only use my stick, I use my shoulders as well. The body control I was taught in football helps me tremendously in lacrosse.”
In the beginning of the season, Burke has just started to get his feet wet.
“It’s been very interesting to say the least,” Burke said. “I just can’t wait to finish the season. I hope to score a goal, but most important, just get better.”
