Player Profile: Navit Nachmias
May 11, 2017
Navit Nachmias, junior, has been doing track and field for eleven years. This is her third year on the HHS track and field team.
“I originally started as a sprinter, but once I got to the HHS team I started working out with the jumpers and I loved it and I have been doing it ever since,” Nachmias said.
Nachmias does the long jump and the triple jump. The long jump is an event that tests the athlete’s speed and ability to leap as far as possible from a take off point. The triple jump, which is similar to the long jump, consists of the athlete running down the track then hopping and landing in a sand pit.
“Last year I was able to reach 14’2’’ in the long jump and 29’8’’ in the triple jump,” Nachmias said, “My goal for this year is to reach the lettering standards.”
The lettering standards for long jump is 15’ and for triple jump is 31”.
“I’m fairly close to the standards, but I’m going to have to work very hard this season to achieve them,” Nachmias said.
Nachmias is looking forward to this season and excited for what is coming up.
“This year we got a new coach, so I’m super excited to see the way he runs practices and helps all of us with our events.” Nachmias said.
The first meet of the season is next Saturday at the University of Minnesota and Nachmias is excited to participate in it.
