Boys hoops preview: Section finals
Mar 14, 2017
The Royals boys basketball team blew past their opponents in their first two games, but will have a tough final game.
The Royals played their first game on Wed., Mar. 8 against the Minneapolis Southwest Lakers. They beat the Lakers 82-52 in one of their easier games of the season.
In that game, the Royals were helped by Ish El-Amin and Simon Wright, seniors, who dropped 18 and 14 points, respectively.
The next game the Royals played was against Robbinsdale Cooper, a team that upset Robbinsdale Armstrong in the first round. Although the Cooper Hawks were able to upset the Armstrong Falcons, The Hawks were no match for the Royals. The Royals dominated in this game, winning 88-55.
With both of those wins, the Royals earned a place in the sections finals and have a chance at going to the State tournament.
On the other side of the bracket, the Wayzata Trojans were able to win both of their games. As a result, they too have earned a chance in the sections finals and a chance at the State tournament.
The Royals will play a tougher game against the Trojans after two straight section wins of 30+ points.
The Royals have faced the Trojans twice this year. In both outings, the home team was able to come out on top. The Trojans were able to win 81-55 at home and the Royals were able to win 70-62 at home.
For one of these teams, it will be the last game for their seniors. For the other it will crown them victors of our section and a ticket to Target Center with a chance to play for the State title.
