Season preview: Boys lacrosse
Mar 10, 2017
With captains practices just around the corner, the season is finally kicking off.
In the previous year, the boys lacrosse squad finished with a 4-9 record overall. They finished with a solid out of conference record of 4-1. The Royals look to improve their conference record from last year which was a record of 0-8.
The Royals have eight conference games this year. These opponents are Edina, Eden Prairie, Wayzata, and Minnetonka. Two games against each team.
Matt Gerstner, junior, is excited to play the lake conference this year.
“Lake conference games always hype me up,” Gerstner said, “Personally, I can’t wait to play Edina because they always push me to be my best.”
The royals will be missing their top scorers from last year, Kamal Baker, Nick Culp, and Scott Zaccagnini all with 19 goals.
“I will miss last year’s seniors a ton. Especially my attack partner Nick Culp who is now at St.Thomas,” said Cole Kinney-Leonhardt.
Look for Kinney, senior to step up. Kinney netted 12 goals last year from the attacker position. Kinney believes he has to take a leadership role this season.
“As captain, I feel obligated to be a leader this season. Also, being a senior will have a lot of leadership roles and opportunities,” Kinney said. “My goals this season is to just have fun and improve as a player and a leader throughout the season.”
The Royals lacrosse team will kick their season off on April 18th against the Edina Hornets.
