Hacksaw Ridge
This weekend, I went out and saw Hacksaw Ridge. The movie takes place during World War II and follows a soldier named Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield) who refused to kill.
The movie starts by foreshadowing a very graphic war scene. Viewers see soldiers getting shot, burned and blown up. The movie had incredible graphics and sound but may be too gory for some viewers.
Hacksaw Ridge can appeal to a wide audience because it is not just a war movie. The movie tells a story of love, strength and bravery.
Doss was the very first American soldier in World War II to fight on the front lines without a weapon. Doss became a medic, evacuating wounded soldiers on enemy lines and bringing them to safety.
Doss saved 75 men during Okinawa, one of the bloodiest battle of World War II, and became the first conscientious objector to win the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Hacksaw Ridge was nominated for 6 Oscars and I understand why. I, a person who is not a fan of gory movies, enjoyed this film simply because of the heartfelt story that was being told.
Hacksaw Ridge is definitely worth the watch.
