Player Profile: Matt Gerstner

Fighting through adversity, Matt Gerstner, junior, looks to start his momentum early going into his junior lacrosse season.
Gerstner is pretty new to the sport, but he has some background in this type of environment.
“I started playing lacrosse last year. I joined the team because I really wanted to play a spring sport and a lot of my buddies were on the team,” Gerstner said. “I played hockey the year before, so I wanted to play something physical.”
Gerstner uses those physical hockey skills to his advantage.
“My skill that I most use to my advantage is my size. I’m not fast, but I use my momentum to hit kids,” Gerstner said. “I baby a lot of them.”
Gerstner has been intensely preparing for the upcoming season.
“I have been spending hours in the weight room to keep my strength and quickness at the level I want it to. Also, I have been playing club lacrosse with Minnesota Chill,” Gerstner said.
“I’m excited going into the season fresh and well rested.”
Gerstner can’t wait for the opportunity to be back on the lacrosse schedule.
“I’m excited to be back with boys grinding everyday. Also, being with my coaches working on my ability,” Gerstner said.
As Gerstner prepares, he has one big goal for himself.
“I wanna go all-conference. That’s a big one for me,” Gerstner said.
Gerstner will look to help improve the 4-9 record of last year’s Royals season.
