Manchester by the Sea

Manchester by the Sea is a 2016 American drama film written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan and starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, Kyle Chandler and Lucas Hedges.

This past weekend, I went out to see the movie Manchester by the Sea. Manchester by the Sea is a current movie that is about a hardened handyman named Lee (Casey Affleck), who returns to his hometown in New England after the death of his brother (Kyle Chandler) to care for his 16-year-old nephew (Lucas Hedges). But his arrival also unearths his checkered past. Soon, Lee comes back into contact with his estranged wife (Michelle Williams) as he deals with life in his tight-knit former community. (Kenneth Lonergan) directed this family drama.

I was not anticipating this to be a good movie for somebody my age, but this film exceeded my standards. It was a deep story with a sad and heartfelt plot which was told really well. It was not only told well by acting, but also by actions and cinematography.

The movie was painful and very tragic but it had many moments and elements of humor in it. There was also obviously lots of drama in this film, but the drama and humor mixed very well in my opinion making it have a good plot and also be enjoyable.

This movie was very dialogue and plot heavy. In my opinion, Lee lacked lots of social skills, and I thought that made the movie better because it added to the idea that he was keeping things inside him and made the plot more intense and some parts and some ways, more mysterious. Lee was a hard person to read.

The only issues I found with this film were that it was a bit complex and made me think very hard rather than enjoy it, but that could just be me. I also found that it did not leave me in a good mood when leaving the movie.

Overall, I would recommend this movie to any audience that just wants to see a legitimately good film. I would see this movie with friends, family, or with a date, it is a good film for any occasion.
