Boys hockey sets two records in loss against Eagles

The Hopkins boys hockey team set a record on Thurs., Feb. 9 facing the Eden Prairie Eagles losing by a deficit of 15 goals.
The final score was 16-1 with the only goal for the Royals coming on a power play from Wyatt Nelson, sophomore.
According to MSHSL the previous record for largest deficit loss in Minn. was 13 goals set by Eveleth-Gilbert High School in 1945.
According to MSHSL the game on Thurs. also tied another Minn. state record with the most combined goals at 17. The record tied was set in 1984 from a game between Rosea and Burnsville with Rosea winning 9-8.
The loss on Thursday brings the Royals Boy’s Hockey team to 2-19 and a 0-7 conference record. Their opponent the Eden Prairie Eagles this season are 17-4-2 and are undefeated in conference play at 6-0.
According to MN Hockey Hub the Eden Prairie Eagles took 73 shots at the Varsity goalies Ethan myers, sophomore, and Ben Serstock, junior. Myers let in 13 of Eden Prairie’s 16 goals facing 54 of the 73 shots.
Myers nor any other players had a response to their performance in Thursday’s game.
