Feb 15, 2017
This Thursday, another HHS alum will be making an appearance for the BOOST series.
Lena Gardner, Social Justice Leader, is an activist for racial justice and LGBTQ rights. Gardner has been working with Black Lives Matter and OutFront Minn. to advocate for social justice.
Gardner is the co-founder of the Unitarian Universalist’s Black Lives Matter group in Minneapolis.
Along with Black Lives Matter and OutFront Minn., Gardner also attended the Women’s March on Washington on inauguration day.
Gardner has been demanding change for social justice by drawing people of all different races, genders, economic backgrounds and sexuality to fight for the same cause.
OutFront Minn. honored Lena with its annual Innovator Award in Nov. 2015 which recognized Gardner for her outstanding community organizing and leadership.
Gardner was one of many protesters who shut down Interstate 94 after the shooting of Philando Castile by a police officer. After the protests turned to violence, Gardner was featured on MPR news to discuss the protests and state that those who turned to violence were not part of Black Lives Matter.
Gardner will be speaking during TASC on Thursday, Feb. 16 in W109.
