With their win over the Annandale Cardinals on Tues., Feb. 7, the Hopkins Royals girls basketball team advanced to 22-0. Dlayla Chakolis, sophomore, has been a major contribution to the team’s success.

Leading the team with 7.3 rebounds per game, she contributes to the team with the defensive energy they have focused on all season.

In the Annandale game, Chakolis dominated with 18 points. She was the second highest scorer for the Royals.

“I just try to do all of the little things and make my team better,” Chakolis said.

Chakolis wants to help lead the team to their undefeated season, but she can’t do it alone. The Royals still have four regular season games that they must prepare for.

“We have to keep working on defense. We also need to get better at pushing the ball faster and running things through a half court set,” Chakolis said.

She is already a strong leader on the team, and this is just the beginning of her success on the basketball court. Chakolis already has many goals and ideas on what she wants to accomplish by the time she graduates.

“I want to win the state championship my sophomore, junior, and senior year and be a Ms. Basketball nominee,” Chakolis said.
