Doomtree makes HHS return for Boost TASC
Feb 8, 2017
This Thurs., Feb. 8, a couple of hip-hop artists will be making a return to HHS.
During TASC, two HHS graduates will be performing and telling their life stories in the Little Theater as part of the Boost TASC series.
Aaron Mader and Andrew Sims, better known as Lazerbeak and Sims are just a few members of Doomtree. Doomtree is an indie-hip-hop collective and record label based in Minn. that performs around the world.
Lazerbeak (Beak) and Sims both attended HHS before stepping into the hip-hop/rap industry. But they aren’t alone. Five of the seven members of Doomtree attended HHS. Beak focuses more on the production side of Doomtree while Sims is one of the leading rappers in the group.
Mr. Mark Czech, music, deserves the credit for bringing these members of Doomtree to Boost TASC. Beak was a member of Czech’s Music Technology class when the class was first funded by the Hopkins Education Foundation (HEF). Due to HEF’s funding, Czech can still inspire many young artists and musicians by continuing to teach Music Technology.
Mr. Rick Rexroth, social studies, is the main coordinator of the Boost Series. He has brought speakers from many different careers and backgrounds to speak at HHS for the past three years.
“Czech definitely deserves the credit for bringing [Lazerbeak and Sims] to HHS,” Rexroth said. “He asked them to come and they were more than happy to do that.”
According to Rexroth, students should expect to hear stories on how Lazerbeak and Sims got where they are as well as a demo by Beak showing how he creates tracks on his computer.
After TASC, Beak and Sims will speak for some of the music classes during second block. This is one of Mr. Rexroth’s main goals with the Boost series. He wants speakers to not only speak during TASC, but to also go to a class or two that can benefit from their stories and experiences.
