Hoops doubleheader preview: Hosting Sioux Falls Washington
Feb 3, 2017
Tonight Fri. Feb. 3, the royals boys and girls basketball teams will be playing back to back games at the Lindbergh Center as they host Sioux Falls Washington
Girls look to remain undefeated
The Royals girls basketball team will look to advance their undefeated streak to 21-0 today, playing a new out of state opponent on their home court.
The Royals will take on the Warriors of Sioux Falls Washington High School, today, Feb. 3rd, at 5:30 pm in the Lindbergh Center. The Warriors are currently 9-5, and ranked 12th in the state of South Dakota.
This week at practice the Royals have put pressure on their defensive game in preparation for matchup, the area where Hannah Kleist, senior, captain for the Royals, states the team needs the most work.
“We have been working hard doing a lot of defensive drills because that’s where we need to improve the most,” Kleist said.
The Royals also had success previously in the season defeating two of the Warrior’s neighboring high schools, Sioux Falls Lincoln, and Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The Warriors took two loses from Sioux Falls Lincoln, and Sioux Falls Roosevelt earlier in the season. The Royals, on the other hand, beat both teams by a margin of more than 20 points.
“I think we’re ready, I think we’re excited. It will be a good game because we don’t really know much about them, but we just have to focus on ourselves and prepare to be the best we can be,” Kleist said.
The Royals Boys basketball team will also play the Warriors tonight at 7 p.m., following the girls game.
Boys look to improve to 14-5
The Royals boys basketball team plays a non-conference home game tonight [Fri., Feb. 3], at 7pm. The Royals host the Washington Warriors from Sioux Falls, SD. The Royals look to win back-to-back games after coming off a Lake Conference win against the Minnetonka Skippers.
The Royals are 13-5 this season and are going into the final stretch of the season. They have been lead by Ish El-Amin, Simon Wright, seniors, and Blaise Beauchamp, freshman. They are averaging 21.4, 15.8, and 13.1 points per game, respectively.
The Warriors are 7-7 and look to bounce back after a loss to the Lincoln Patriots from Sioux Falls, SD.
“We have to treat every game the same, it should be a good game, I’m looking forward to it,” Wright said.
The Warriors have played against one other Minnesota team this season, as they beat the Marshall Tigers in OT.
The Royals pulled off a great comeback win against the Skippers last Tues., Jan. 31. In that game, Beauchamp and El-Amin led the Royals in scoring by both netting 20 points. Wright also helped by dropping 16 points.
After tonight, the Royals next game is an away game versus Annandale High School, that matchup will be played next Tues., Feb. 7. The Royals don’t return home until next Thurs., Feb. 10, where they will host Edina, who the Royals fell victim to earlier in the season 63-73.
