Last night, the Royals girls basketball team had a second chance to get back at the Minnetonka Skippers, who beat them in the state championship game last year for a second time.

Earlier in the season, on Dec. 9, the Royals defeated the previous state champions by 28 points with a final score of 77-49. Last night, the slaughtering was continued with a 25 point victory and a final score of 80-55.

“I feel great, I feel like we accomplished what we worked on in practice and applied it to the game,” said Dee Dee Winston, senior. “I felt like we persevered through the hard times, when the refs weren’t calling the fouls or they called fouls on us that weren’t really fouls. I feel like we turned that into energy against [the Skippers] and pulled out the W.”

Paige Bueckers, freshman, led the Royals in scoring last night with a whopping 25 points, ten more points than both of the leading scorers for the skippers. Reanna Suggs, junior, was close behind with 22.

Both Bueckers and Suggs have been stand out players throught the Royals’ season thus far, Bueckers averaging 20.4 points per game, and Suggs averaging 17.

The win against the Skippers continues the Royals on an undefeated season, pushing them to a record of 20-0.

The Royals look to continue their winning streak on Friday, Feb. 3rd, at 5:30 p.m. at home against Sioux Falls Washington.
