Ishmael El-Amin, senior, shoots a free throw in the semifinal state game against the Apple Valley Eagles.

Last Friday night, the Royals boys basketball team picked up a 84-77 win over the Eden Prairie Eagles, at the Lindbergh Center.

Simon Wright, senior, led the way for the Royals with 23 points. Ishmael El-Amin, senior, added 22 points of his own to help the Royals secure their first Lake Conference victory.

“The Eden Prairie game went well for us,” Wright said. “We had a slow start but we hit our stride in the second half and ended up playing pretty well.”

The Royals next test is tonight, when they host the #1 ranked Champlin Park Rebels, in a non conference matchup. The Rebels are led by star seniors, Mckinley Wright, Dayton commit, and Theo John, Marquette commit.

“Champlin is a good team, all we need to focus on is getting better every possession and we should be able to take care of business,” Wright said.

After this matchup, the Royals will return to Lake Conference play next Tues. Jan. 31, when they will travel to Minnetonka to play the Skippers for the first time this year. The Royals hope to secure the victory over Minnetonka so they can move back up to a .500 record in the Lake Conference.
