Snow takes over the Twin Cities
Dec 13, 2016
Over the weekend the Twin Cities metro gained about 6 to 9 inches of snow based on location. Students at HHS have taken advantage of this weather.
While some student were out sledding, skiing, or making snow angels Dixon Hopp, senior, was working.
Hopp works for Barney Klecker, president of Hospitality Management Systems (HMS), a privately owned landscaping and snow removal company.
“I started shoveling at 10am and finished at 4-4:30 ish,” Hopp said.
HMS shovels apartments, townhouses, duplexes, and the occasional old folks home in the Hopkins and Minnetonka area. Some include Cloud 9, and The Glenn Hopkins old folks home.
Hopp was not the only student out and about, Alex Hoffman, senior spend 3 hours building a snow fort.
“ I made a huge snow fort in my backyard with my brother and sister. The fort can fit just about 7 people,” Hoffman said.
The snow fort took just about all of the snow in the Hoffman’s yard. Fort Hoffman has a wooden support system and they are planning on adding a coffee machine later in the year.
Even with all the snow Audrey Crandell, senior was disappointed about the type of snow. With a couple of friends Crandell went to Scheid Hill in Golden Valley to sled.
“We went sledding for a pretty long time but I was disappointed the snow was too powdery so we couldn’t make any snowmen. We did make snow chairs though,” Crandell said.
The HHS alpine team was not complaining about the 6 inches of fresh powder. Although they did not practice in the fresh snow the overall feel of practice on Friday was a sense of excitement to be finally be on snow.
