Last season, the Royals boys basketball team went 25-1 during the regular season, and went on to win the State Championship. Last night, the 2016-2017 boys basketball team held the first day of their tryouts.

The boys basketball tryouts featured a lot of basic basketball drills like a three on two/two on one drill, dribbling, shooting and also some defensive drills. A lot of basic drills are featured during the tryouts to pick out any new kids who will be cut.

Tryouts for the basketball team are really more of a practice because the kids and coaches know who will be on the team and get playing time based off of work put in during the offseason.

The boys basketball tryouts are two days long, and the teams will be announced after the tryout tonight.

“We hope to get a lot of hard work in and we take it as more of the first practice, not a tryout, so we’re hoping to get a lot of things done this first week,” said captain Simon Wright, senior.

The Royals look to get off to a good first week after these tryouts and get ready for their first game on Dec. 6 at Columbia Heights, when they will play the Columbia Heights Hylanders.
