HHS seniors experience voting for the first time
Nov 8, 2016
Earlier today, many HHS students casted their votes for the very first time.
After countless months of drama filled presidential campaigns, the candidates are settling down and the polls have opened.
Andy Berris, senior, gets to celebrate his 18th birthday on voting day.
“I am getting a feel for adulthood right away,” Berris said. “I am excited to cast my vote.”
Zoe Kirshbaum, senior, turned 18 just two days before voting day.
“I am so excited to vote,” Kirshbaum said. “This is quite an interesting election and I’m glad that I get to say I was apart of the election process.”
While some of HHS’ 18 year olds are enthusiastic about voting, others are disappointed in the ugly turns the election has taken.
“I am honestly not thrilled about voting when I’m not sure about either candidate,” said Katherine Mandeville, senior.
The two-party system, Democrats and Republicans, has been the primary voting trend in the United States. After seeing the unappealing campaigns brought by both the Republican and Democratic candidates, some students are steering away from the D’s and R’s.
“The two party system has so many people stumped so that’s why I learned more about the third party candidates,” said Bit Klecker, senior. “ I found that I aligned more with them.”
Don’t forget to get out and vote!
