On Tues. Nov. 1, Royals volleyball earned a spot in the section 6AAA Championship after a 3-0 win over Robbinsdale Armstrong.

The Royals became 2016 Section Champions after playing the No. 2 seeded Bloomington Jefferson in a 3-0 shutout on Sat. Nov. 5, advancing them to the State Tournament.

“The game was super exciting. We played really well and held our composure the whole time,” said Tara Lee, junior.

The Royals received the No. 3 seed at State behind Eagan and Champlin Park. The girls will continue their strong season at the Xcel Energy center against Moorhead on Thurs. Nov. 10 at 11a.m. Last year, girls volleyball lost to Moorhead in their second game in State, which knocked them out of the tournament.

“Making it back to the state tournament is a great feeling,” Lee said. “We lost to Moorhead last year, but this year we are a whole different team and we think we could really do something special.”
