Hopkins students participate in mock Presidential election
Oct 24, 2016
From Trump’s vulgar video that got leaked to Clinton’s confidential email scandal, the 2016 Presidential election has been like no other.
Today, Monday Oct. 24, HHS students will be able to cast their vote for who they believe should be the next President of the United States.
Although actual voting day is Nov. 8, HHS will vote early in order to meet the Minnesota Secretary of State’s deadline to participate in the program. Students’ votes won’t mean anything, but it will give the state and HHS a better look at future generations will vote.
“Hopkins mock elections in the past have leaned heavily democratic,” said Mr. John Unruh-Friesen, social studies.
HHS participating in the Minnesota Votes Mock Presidential Election along with 282 other schools across the state.
“I think it’s fun to mix in our votes with thousands of other students across the state and see how the next generation of Minnesota’s leaders feel about this crazy election,” Unruh-Friesen said.
Participating in mock elections help future voters realize how important voting is because one vote can change the outcome.
Voting will be done on Chromebooks during the school day and will be anonymous.
