Last Sunday, 8,551 people gave their last burst of energy during the downhill descent to the finish line of the Twin Cities Marathon.
Danny Dolan, senior, worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at the marathon. He worked with doctors, nurses, paramedics, other EMT’s, and even some ski patrol.
“At first I was stationed at milepost 14 and saw very little,” Dolan said. “Just some taped legs and cramping, nothing serious.”
A marathon is 26.2 miles long, starting near the U.S. Bank Stadium and ending near the Minnesota State Capitol. Dominic Ondoro, Kenya, was the first to cross the finish line and broke the Twin Cities Marathon record by over a minute, with a time of 2:08:51.
After the majority of the runners had passed the 14th mile, Dolan went to the finish line to see more action.
“[At the finish line] I worked with people that were collapsing, vomiting, seizing, cramping, having asthma attacks, and hypoglycemic episodes,” Dolan said. “All in all, the finishers were all very happy to be done. It was a great experience.”
