When students came into school Monday morning, many came to the realization that Mr. Tyson Crockett, former Academic Dean of Students, was not in attendance.

Crockett left HHS this year to pursue a higher level of administration at Edison High School in Northeast Minneapolis. Taking on the role of Assistant Principal, he wants to use what he has learned at Hopkins and other schools to help Edison High School reach new heights.

“During my three years at Hopkins I was able to gain many new skills and improve on others. As I reached the end of my third year, I wanted to find new ways to improve my skill sets,” Crockett said. “I chose to move on from Hopkins High School in order to pursue additional challenges and an increased role as an administrator.”

According to US News and World Report, Edison High School serves grades 9-12 and has, on average, 750 students enrolled each year. Also, it has a 14:1 student-teacher ratio, compared to HHS’ ratio of 20:1.

Although Crockett has left the Hopkins School District, he will always remember the friendships and memories he has made here.

When I think of Hopkins, I remember laughing with students on many different occasions, attending a lot of athletic events, watching the students support the school teams with a lot of passion, and learning from the skills and experiences of my [former] colleagues. But mostly laughing with students,” Crockett said.

Crockett’s best memories were the conversations and laughs he shared with students and staff.

“There were three specific students that would constantly make me laugh and then tell me that they were my favorite students. They know who they are,” Crockett said. “Also, having the front office staff hug me against my will.”
