This Thursday, the Royals volleyball team will be going up against the Prior Lake Lakers. The State Championship first round showdown will be held at the Xcel Energy Center at 9 am.

The first time the Royals and the Lakers faced each other this season resulted in a loss for the Royals.

“Our biggest threat is Cece McGraw. She is a really good defensive specialist,” said Nicole Dewitz, senior. “We will have to adjust the offensive to fit her skill level.”

This is the Royals’ first time making it to the State Tournament since 2007.

The Royals have been practicing hard since defeating the Washburn Millers.

“Coming out of the game against Washburn, our confidence as a team has really grown,” said Olivia Hawkins, senior. “We’re prepared for whatever the Lakers have in store for us.”

No matter if the Royals win or lose Thursday, the Royals will play again on Friday at 9 am at the Xcel Energy Center.
