The Walking Dead: season six review
Nov 8, 2015
This critique represents the personal views of writer Mike Ewing. Ewing’s views do not necessarily reflect those of The Royal Page staff as a whole.
The start of October didn’t just feature vibrant colors and cold fall weather; it also featured the return of AMC’s hit show, “The Walking Dead”.
On Oct. 11, the show returned with its first episode of the sixth season, “First Time Again.” The episode featured the main group of characters in the show leading a herd of Walkers away from Alexandria, the town that the characters found refuge in during earlier seasons. Of course, the plan was unsuccessful.
The following episodes of season six have switched off between two separate groups: the group at Alexandria and the group leading the herd of Walkers away.
The group positioned in Alexandria faces conflicts with a breach in their walls from a competing group who we know as the “Wolves”, with W’s written on their heads. The Wolves launch an attack on Alexandria and ravage the town, assaulting and killing innocent members of the society.
In the most recent episode, “Thank You,” Glenn and Michonne must lead Nicholas, Heath, and the other Alexandrians back to the safe-zone. At the end of the episode, Glenn is eaten by Walkers, or that’s what the director, Frank Darabont, wants the audience to think.
People everywhere on social media were heartbroken over the loss of one of their favorite characters, who has been in the show since the first season. Twitter was trending with the hashtag #Glennisalive, and blogs all over the internet wrote theories about why the writers of the show decided to kill off such a vital character.
Glenn has been a character of The Walking Dead since the first season, but I personally believe he never really served any purpose besides being a love interest for Maggie. Also, the writers try to make it seem as if Glenn is the sole purpose for why the group is alive, but we all know it’s Rick doing all the work.
Glenn’s “death” didn’t surprise me, but I was happy to see him go. It was about time that the show got rid of some dead weight.
This fall has also featured a spin-off show called “Fear The Walking Dead”, which is a prequel show about how the world transformed into what is now the show “The Walking Dead”. The show is set in Los Angeles, and features a completely different cast from “The Walking Dead.”
The new run off has not gotten nearly as much hype as “The Walking Dead,” but people still seem to love it. This show will come back on Sundays at 8 p.m. in 2016.
The next 12 episodes will definitely keep me interested if the writers continue on the path they’re on now.
You can catch every episode of “The Walking Dead” on Sundays at 8 p.m. on AMC.
