Boys soccer season ends with loss to Minneapolis South

The boys soccer team’s season came to an end last Thursday at Minneapolis Roosevelt High School.

The 0-1 loss against the eighth ranked team in the regular season, Minneapolis South, was a heartbreaker for the Royals as the team was hoping their newfound momentum at the end of the regular season would lead to a big push in the playoffs.

Minneapolis South’s senior midfielder, Zane Elfatairy, scored in the second half to give Minneapolis the lead.

“This year wasn’t what we expected and was very frustrating overall. I felt like we had no luck on our side, and it’s hard to sit here after the season and think about the ‘what if’s’ throughout the season,” said Andrew Shirley, senior captain.

Despite ending the season with a disappointing record, Shirley still has optimism for the team of 2016.

“My brother and Ian Yunis have really stepped up this year, and I can speak for the graduating class, that we’re excited to see what those two and the rest of the team bring to the table next year,” Shirley said.
