Teachers of HHS: Mr. Michael Gehlsen

Dylan Judge-Steuck, Staff Reporter

unnamedWhat is your impression of Hopkins so far?

“All the students are just amazing. Everyone comes in here and just wants to learn. They’re just so engaged. Everyone is just super easy to build a relationship with.”

Is this your first year teaching here, or your first year teaching in general?

“This is my first teaching gig. Last year I did my student teaching at Sanford Middle School in Minneapolis and Patrick High School.”

What exactly do you teach?

“I teach two sections of Physics and a section of physical science at [Hopkins North Junior High].”

What made you want to pursue this field?

“The first time I stepped into a classroom, I really enjoyed it. I’ve always really enjoyed science, and when I got to [the University of Iowa], I had to make a choice between Engineering and Physics, so I decided to start off with Physics. I met a ton of great people in my classes, and we’ve been great friends for the last five years.”
