Yesterday, Amir Coffey, senior and star player for the Royals Boys basketball team, committed to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities to play basketball.

Last season on Dec. 2, in an early season non-conference matchup against Burnsville, Coffey suffered many leg injuries, including an ACL tear which sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Although Coffey was not able to play basketball for the majority of the 2014-15 season, activities surrounding basketball continued, mainly the recruitment and college selection process.
Coffey is ranked the 33rd overall High School basketball player in the high school class of 2016 by ESPN’s 2016 ESPN 100. Some of the major teams that recruited Coffey, including Arizona, Baylor, Indiana, Miami (FL), Michigan St., and Wisconsin.

In choosing the U of M, Coffey is following in the footsteps of his father, Richard Coffey, who played for the Gophers in his college years.

When Coffey is not playing for the Royals, he plays on an AAU club basketball team, Howard Pulley. Some other notable HHS Alumni that played for Howard Pulley are Jake Wright, Zach Stahl, Siyani Chambers, and Kris Humphries.
