With the girls varsity soccer season well under way, all eyes are on the team to take it to state and go farther than last year.

Jordyn Petty, junior, is the only goalie for the team this year and is doing well despite the pressure.

“It’s a lot to live up to, and there is definitely a lot of pressure that comes with it. Earlier this season, I had ankle problems, and if my ankle hurt I didn’t have the option to come out. It can be really tough,” Petty said.

While being the only goalie can have its downfalls, it also has perks.

“I never go into a game nervous about whether or not I will play during the game. I am always on the field and in the action,” Petty said.

People on the sidelines get excited when Petty catches the ball, but she doesn’t see it that way.

“Sure it’s exciting, but it’s my job. I’m just doing what I am supposed to do, so it’s not a big deal, but it’s a lot of pressure off your shoulders when you catch it,” Petty said.

Grace O’Neil, senior captain, agrees that Petty is having a great season.

“Jordyn is great. She really knows where to position people, especially on the back line. She takes those risks that other goalies wouldn’t, and it really works out well for her and the team. I know that I can trust Jordyn, and having her in the net is really reassuring,” O’Neil said.
