Football preview: facing the Eagles

The 2014 Royals football team accomplished a lot over the course of the 2014 season, including placing second in the Lake Conference with a 4-4 regular season record. Three of the Royals’ four losses were against teams who qualified for the Class 6A State Tournament.

In the season finale, the Royals took on Eden Prairie, the soon-to-be 2014 Class 6A State Champions. The Royals outscored the Eagles in the second half 21-6, however still fell short with a final score of 28-34.

Two games into the season the Royals are .500, with a 1-1 record. As the Thursday game quickly approaches, the Royals are looking to break the Eagles’ 32-win streak.

“We are starving for success. Every player on the field has earned their position, working hard in the offseason for the opportunity to beat Eden Prairie,” said Riley Allen, junior and defensive tackle.

The Eagles have been undefeated since the 2012 season, when they dropped back to back games to end their regular season. They then went on to win out the rest of the season and their second consecutive Class 6A title. The Eagles have not lost a game since, becoming State Tournament champions four years running.

This Thursday night, kickoff begins is at 7:00 pm, as the Royals host the Eagles at the HHS Football Stadium.
