The Hopkins boys lacrosse season came to an end last night, with the Royals losing in a hard-fought sections battle to the Minnetonka Skippers.

To begin the game, the Skippers jumped to an 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of the first quarter. The Royals answered with two consecutive goals to make the score 2-4 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Minnetonka player Tad Utter scored two goals. Scott Zaccagnini, junior, scored late in the second quarter to make it 6-3 at the half.

There was a plethora of scoring in the third period. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was 10-7 in favor of Minnetonka.

The Royals were optimistic going into the fourth quarter.

“We were feeling really good. We had Tonka scared and it felt like the game was going to be special,” said Ely Harel, senior.

Minnetonka scored four goals in the fourth quarter and Hopkins only scored three. The Skippers outshot the Royals 37-27. The final score was 14-10 Minnetonka.

“We were all very proud of ourselves afterwards. This was by far the best Hopkins team ever, and we were all so proud to be a part of it,” Harel said.
